MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET
PRODUCT: PROTECTIVE PACKAGING NETS
Not a WHMIS controlled product
Polyethylene Resin 99-100% wt/wt
AFFECTS OF ACUTE AND CHRONIC EXPOSURE
SKIN
Direct contact with product may cause dermatitis (skin inflammation) in sensitive individuals. Contact with molten will burn unprotected skin.
EYES
Irritation may result from the physical presence of any of the product or parts of the product in the eyes.
INHALATION
Small particles inhaled may cause mild respiratory tract irritation
INGESTION
No known health hazard appears to be posed by the ingestion of small amounts of the product. A physician should be consulted if large amounts are ingested.
OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS
Airborne particles of the product should be considered a nuisance dust. The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) has established an Occupational Exposure Limit (TLV-TWA) of 10 milligrams per cubic metre of air for Particulates Not Otherwise Classified (i.e., nuisance dust).
TOXICITY DATA
LD /LC DATA
No test data available for routes of inhalation or ingestionREPRODUCTIVE EFFECTS No reproductive effects
MUTAGENIC EFFECTS No mutagenic effects
CARCINOGENICITY Not carcinogenic (by OSHA, NTP Or IARC)
FIRST AID INFORMATION
SKIN
Wash contaminated skin with soap and water. Individuals experiencing skin sensitivity should obtain
medical advice. Should a burn occur, cool burn area emmediately with cool, clean, running water
until no heat is emitted from burn area. Cover with light, dry dressing. Do not apply ointments or
puncture blister. Obtain medical assistance.
EYES
Remove dust particles by flushing eye with clean water. Seek medical attention.
INHALATION
If respiratory irritation occurs, remove affected personnel from the work area. Obtain medical
attention if irritation persists, or if severe. Implement appropriate controls to prevent further
exposure (refer to section 8)
INGESTION
Consult a physician if pain or discomfort occurs.
5. FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARD DATA
FLASHPOINT Not applicable
AUTO IGNITION TEMP 330 C – 410 C (630 F- 770 F)
FLAMABLE LIMITS Non-volatile material
FIRE EXTINGUISHING SUBSTANCE
Water spray, foam or dry chemical using extinguisher manufacture’s recommended application
Techniques.
HAZARDOUS COMBUSTION PRODUCTS
Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, aldehydes, acrolein and small amounts of other organic vapours
may be produced.
SPECIAL FIREFIGHTING PROCEDURES
Firefighters must wear NIOSH-approved, self-contained breathing apparatus to provide protection
against combustion products. Evacuate all unprotected personnel.
UNUSUAL FIRE AND EXPLOSION HAZARDS
None noted
STABILITY Stable
INCOMPATIBILITY
None
CONDITIONS TO AVOID
Temperatures over 325 C(620 F) may cause resin degradation.HAZARDOUS DECOMPOSITION
At temperatures over 250 C (480 F), carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, alderhydes, ketones, acids and small amounts of other organic vapours may be produced. Carbon monoxide formation is enhanced under conditions of oxygen starvation.
7. SPILL AND LEAK RESPONSE PROCEDURES
Not applicable.
8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS AND PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT
ENGINEERING CONTROLS
Local and general ventilation must be provided when product is cut using a device which may cause dust particles.
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION
The use of NIOSH-approved respiratory protection is recommended when airbourne dust concentrations or decomposition products cannot be adequately controlled by ventilation. Respiratory protection must be selected to suit the type of contaminant, the concentration of the contaminant and the limitations of the respiratory protective device.
EYE PROTECTION
Safety glasses with side shields should be worn when cutting, where airborn dust particles could enter the eyes. Non-vented chemical goggles should be worn when there is potential for exposure to vapours or combustion products.
PROTECTIVE GLOVES/CLOTHING
Gloves and other skin coverings should be worn by individuals experiencing skin sensitivity. Heat-resistant gloves should be worn when handling molten product
Store in area away from ignition sources.

NOTE TO PHYSICIAN
Smoke and hazardous decomposition products produced in fires involving polyethylene resins can be irritating and may cause pulmonary edema in severely exposed individuals. As this effect may be delayed in onset, a 72 hour post-exposure observation is recommended. Carboxyhemoglobin levels should also be monitored to asses the degree of carbon monoxide absorption in these individuals.
